During the previous week, a new round of our courses in the Cool-Roofing technique started. After previous successful course sessions with our partner schools Movant Göteborg, Göteborgs Praktiska Gymnasium and Movant Helsingborg, it is time for the next batch to be certified in the performance of this innovative technique, which also includes Yrkesgymnasiet in Borås. As the need for craftsmen certified in the execution of the coating grows, we will also organise courses in the spring of 2023.
Within the two projects “Environment & Work” and “Cool Green Deal”, which are funded by Vinnova and the Heritage Fund, this will be done by offering painting students and construction students a free course in the Cool-Roofing technique. This is a technique for ‘coating’ roofs with a white paint that reflects sunlight back into space, rather than attracting heat in the same way as a black roof does. This, in turn, reduces the greenhouse effect and significantly lowers energy costs for the property owner. In other parts of the world, such as France and California, the technology is standard for new buildings and the practice has also begun to spread to Sweden. Commercial and industrial buildings with cooling needs, and roofs with solar panels, are the main areas where the technology is particularly advantageous in terms of earning a return on investment in a short space of time.
Thermo-Logic in Landvetter is one of the pioneers in Sweden as they are among the first craftsmen to be accredited installers of Cool Roofing systems and certified performers of coating for white roofs. They have been official partners and instructors for the Put Paint on Gothenburg course participants since the start of the introductory training. Together with instructors from Miljöteknik, they have conducted two course sessions at Yrkesgymnasiet in Borås and Movant Göteborg during this round. The one-day course consists of both lectures and practical sessions in which students learn to carry out the various elements themselves.
