Painting has been a central part of our projects and collaborations since the start of Sätt Färg På Göteborg (Cool Color). During the Frihamnsdagarna we demonstrated this again in collaboration with Prototyp Göteborg where Omställningshotellet was painted live by artist Onofrio Chillemi.

Over the last ten years Onofrio Chillemi has created a series of works that he calls “Indefinite Architecture”. The series includes everything from murals and drawings to objects and installations. The interplay of recurring geometric shapes, organic lines and recycled materials gives life to what can be described as abstract architectural structures. Sometimes the works are chaotic, at other times restrained and delicate, but the compositions always come from a playful exploration in which the artist is not looking for answers. Instead, by challenging our impressions, he wants to raise questions with his art.

For the work in Frihamnen I have taken a specific approach, and this involved chopping up (literally) the original design and shuffling the resulting pieces around.

In Gothenburg, the goal is for the city to have a near-zero carbon footprint by 2030. Achieving this will require a major transformation that includes both the way citizens live and the way they live. The Transition Hotel, which will be built in 2022 and 2023, is being created with the aim of providing community stakeholders and citizens with a physical meeting place where they can have conversations together about issues that contribute to the positive development of the city’s climate transition.
