Cool Green Deal: New project combines climate improvements with social sustainability and urban development

Reducing global warming and green entry-level jobs for young people who are far from the labour market. With the Cool Green Deal, Sätt färg på Göteborg wants to make a tangible contribution to Sweden becoming climate neutral by 2045.

The Cool Green Deal is a new project that aims to give young people a counterbalance to environmental and job concerns by involving them in a concrete environmental project and by using their efforts to create green jobs with employment opportunities for other young people and themselves.

The project has three perspectives: improving the climate by reducing global warming, providing good entry-level jobs for young adults who are outside the labour market, and including young people in the work towards the 2030 Agenda goals.

The main part of the project is about reducing the carbon footprint of buildings by providing dark, flat roofs with a white coating that reflects heat. The first steps are to find suitable roofs for the project, and to train those who will carry out the coating. The roof search is already underway digitally, with the help of young environmental ambassadors, and the coating training will start in early May in Gothenburg.

In the US, work on Cool Roofing has been going on for a long time, and has been recognised by Nobel Laureate Steven Chu, but there is very little knowledge in Sweden, linked to our conditions, so this is a unique effort.
